what is the best investment company (ie. e-trade, scottrade, ameritrade, etc) for short term trading?
I personally like Think or Swim brokerage. Their trading platform gives you a lot of abilities to research and analyze many different types of stock and option trades. They allow many more trading possibilities than etrade, scottrade, etc. Their website is even a good source for reading on the various ways you can trade options. Their fees are also very reasonable.

All major brokerage firms provide their clients with on-line services, including trading platforms, latest market & financial news and research.
Customer need to select the site that is best for them. Traders have requirements in a site, while investors have other requirements.
Although most sites are geared to general securities and commodities, however customers may have special needs for the types of products they trade, and the markets in which they trade.
It seems that the most popular firms for on-line investing all of which provide excellent platforms and services are; for equitieis Scottrade; Chas.Schwab; TDAmeritrade; Fidelity; E-Trade and for options, Thinkorswim.
I personally use for investments – Fidelity, for trading I like Scottrade and for options I use ThinkorSwim
Pick one of the major companies and you can feel safe.

I would say scottrade! I have used them and I do not have any complaints yet. Each trade cost a reasonable $7. Right now you can take advantage of their 3 free online trade promotion. This is open for any one who opens a new account with Scottrade. You are welcome to use the code: RYIH7345

I like Zecco. They are cheap, only 4.95 a trade. For me I like them because you can trade penny stocks for no extra commission like most brokers. If you are going for short term trading, they are good since they are cheap. If you plan to day trade, watch out as you need 25k in your account if you do more than 3 day trades a week.
If you want to learn more about zecco, see my link in the source below.
